Should I Upgrade to Vista? With all the excitement of the new Microsoft Windows Vista you are probably wondering "Should I buy this?". There are a couple things to consider when thinking about this. Is your computer powerful enough to use it? Will it run all of my software? Do I really need to upgrade? Will My Computer Be Powerful Enough? Vista will run on most modern computers. If your computer is older then 2006 it might not be powerful enough to run it without some hardware upgrades. Even if your 1 year old computer says "Vista Compatible" it might not be powerful enough still. The big computer manufacturers can be tricky this way just to get you to buy their system. Will It Run All My Software? If the software was designed to run on Windows ME/98/95/3.11/DOS then no. If your software can run in Windows XP then it has a 50/50 chance of working with Vista. Do I really Need To Upgrade? If you are content with Windows XP right now I see no need to upgrade to Vista for a while. Unless Microsoft just stops supporting Windows XP which I do not see happening for a while. Should I buy this as soon as it now? Rule of thumb for myself when it comes to a new version of Windows is to wait a year until they iron out all the bugs until I upgrade. Usually when a new Windows hits the streets it has many problems. Sure you can buy it as soon as it comes out and not have any problems at all but that is unlikely to happen. The main problem right now is if you have an older computer you will be spending alot of money just to get vista running well on your system. |
